Red Carpet Report: Oscars 2014

Does anyone else watch the Academy Awards strictly for the fashion or is it just me? I have to say, I fell in LOVE with a few gowns this year. I also noticed some trends after seeing each celebrity walk the carpet. Here's what I thought:

Who ever said that black is boring needs a serious reality check. These four ladies are GLOWING in their all black gowns:
(from left to right)

Karen O in Camilla Staerk, Neil Lane jewels, and Rau Wolf clutch.
The lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is OWNING that deep V. The simple hair & bold red lip are a great way to add to this simple gown. The architectural-style clutch adds a bit of edge as well.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture and Harry Winston jewels.
This is not the first time that Charlize has blown us away with an all black gown. She has also shown us how elegant a pixie haircut can be. Her pendant necklace perfectly compliments the plunging neckline.

Anne Hathaway in Gucci and Neil Lane jewels.
It is so nice to see the edgier side of Anne Hathaway. I particularly love this look for the armor-like detail on the gown. Although the silhouette is practically identical to her gown last year, she still looks amazing. She also knows how to perfectly style a pixie cut.

Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel, Piaget jewels and Rau Wolf clutch.
I had a strong hunch that I would be seeing a J. Mendel gown on the red carpet after seeing the collection. The fit on Anna is phenomenal, and the slit is at the perfect height. Her sleek up do and pop of color with a red clutch are great choices for this look.

Each of these ladies look so amazing in blue, it is BEYOND. To top it off, they were all nominated!

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
I would definitely say that Sandra's style this award show season has been top notch. This elegant gown is so flattering on her, she looks like she has won already! Her side swept curls give a classy touch to this ensemble.

Lupita Nyong'o in custom Prada and Fred Leighton jewels.
I'm pretty sure the whole world was anxious to see what Lupita was going to wear to the Oscars, considering she has looked flawless at every event. She is what everyone is talking about, and this dreamy shade of blue (which I'm sure we will be seeing Nairobi Blue on nail polish bottles soon) was created just for her….AND she walked away with an Oscar. Congratulations, Lupita!

Amy Adams in Gucci Premiere and Tiffany & Co. jewels and clutch.
There is no doubting that blue is Amy's color. This navy shade is perfection against her complexion and hair color. The colorful earrings are a great way to make up for the absence of a necklace. BTW, her figure is to die for!

I can only describe these 3 looks as SHEER EXCELLENCE. After all, what color is more flattering than nude?

Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab Haute Couture, Robert Procop jewels.
There is a special place in my heart for Elie Saab, who never fails to make a beautifully embellished gown. This sheer masterpiece looks stunning on Angelina. I'm loving the illusion at the top of the dress, which many would say is a bit risqué. I mean, it is only appropriate that the woman cast as Maleficent takes a fashion risk!

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive and Chopard jewels.
Cate has blown us away again in another Armani Prive gown. I think we can all agree that she gets it right every single time. Her hair and choice of jewelry always seem to be on point, and she is a master at pulling a look together. She also took home an Oscar. Congratulations, Cate!

Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra.
I love how feminine this gown is; it is almost fairy-like. Her romantic-styled hair and statement earrings are great touches to this look. I've always been a sucker for a textured skirt on a gown. I also love the sheer embellished top. (Britney Spears Toxic tease!) And who needs a clutch when you have Channing Tatum next to you?

…drumroll….

and my Best Dressed award goes to…..

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace, Neil Lane jewels and Versace cluch.
*APPLAUSE*
Kate just shut it DOWN with this look. She deserves an award for the dramatics of the small cape on this gown. Her delicate curls and smokey eyes turn this gown into a sexy showstopper. I've always loved her style, and I have never been disappointed by her on the red carpet. Besides the fact that she is naturally gorgeous, she chooses very flattering gowns that always have a subtle amount of sex appeal to them. Great job, Kate!
